For me personally and I think for many of you out there too hair removal is something time consuming, tedious, painful and just plain annoying. Although I don’t have very dark or a lot of hair I do still need to deal with shaving, waxing, etc. a couple times a week which I just hate! So what if there were a way of only having to deal with it once every two weeks and after a while even less often? Well, there is! 🙂 It’s called IPL. I recently tried out the IPL device Braun Silk-Expert and was very happy with it. The only downside was that in the first weeks you had to use it once a week which still felt like a lot of work to me. So when I got to try out the Philips Lumea Prestige I was very excited and interested in how it would work as in the initial phase you only need to use the device once every two weeks.
Before I get into the “how to use” and the result I’d like to list what comes in the Lumea Prestige box.
- IPL device
- Body Attachment
- Facial Attachment
- Bikini Attachment
- Cleaning Cloth
I am really glad that the Lumea prestige comes with a pouch to store the device and all the extra parts as well in. It keeps it clean and is easier to store without loosing anything. If you ever want to take the device with you while travelling it is also perfect.
There are three different attachments included. Each size matches a different area. The smallest one is for the face (chin, sideburns and upper lip), the medium is for your bikini area and the largest is the body attachment (arms, legs, stomach, bikini, underarms).
In case you haven’t heard of IPL yet or don’t know how it works I explain it in more detail in my Braun Silk-Expert post or you can watch the following video which shows you how it works as well.
Now that you know what an IPL device does I’ll get right into the “how to use it”. What I find absolutely fabulous with Philips’ device is that it comes with an app. The app tells you a lot about the device but the main feature for me is that it creates your treatment schedule and reminds you to use the device so you never miss a treatment.
Using the device itself is also really easy and can be best explained with the video below.
One major benefit is that you charge the device prior to using it so you can use it whenever and wherever you want to and don’t have to uncomfortably crouch down close to a socket while using it. As mentioned in the video it doesn’t take long at all to use especially considering you need to only use it every other week in the first phase.
One of my initial concerns with IPL was that it would hurt. I’m not going to lie, by telling you that there isn’t a slight zap in some areas but it is nothing compared to waxing or epilating.
The only downside I have noticed with this device compared to the Braun one is that you need to set your device to the right intensity setting yourself. On the up side though the app does help you find the right level. Apart from this minor drawback I must say that I am very happy with how simple this device is to use.
On to results. It is important to know that you won’t see results immediately. It is also vital that you stay consistent. The hair doesn’t fall out immediately and they don’t all stop growing back at once. After my second treatment though I did already see a massive reduction in the amount of hair that grew back. I did find that the coarser the hair the better it works. So for me it worked a lot better in my bikini area and armpits. After the initial phase of 4-5 treatments I was practically hair free and can now use it only whenever I feel it needs a touch up which is roughly every 6-8 weeks.
So would I recommend the Philips Lumea Prestige? Heck yeah! My hair removal routine is so much less time consuming, painful and irritating than it used to be. The initial phase is very short and after that you really do see great results! I love the app, that you can use the device wirelessly and of course that it comes with three different attachments for different body parts. I also think it’s great that it comes with a pouch and cleaning cloth.
As I haven’t been using the device for very long I cannot affirm this but I have read that the lamp lasts for a very long time so you can use it for years and years without having to replace it. Also if you aren’t happy with it, Philips has a 90 day money back guaranty! With that being said there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t go give it a try yourself. I am sure you won’t regret it!
