Guest Post by Elise – New Year Resolution: Spoil Yourself

There is no better time than the present to show some love to yourself; yes, that’s right – it’s time you gave yourself wings and finally accepted how amazing you are. The thing is, we’ve spent so much time investing in education, jobs, improvement and yet – we’ve somehow failed to learn to love ourselves first. Such a shame. So, here we are – at the margins of our 20s and/or 30s, learning the skill from scratch. Let’s then make it a lesson worth remembering.

This year around (that is, in the year to come) make it your business to spoil yourself happy. Why? Because no one else will. Assuming you’ve been wrapped up in your work and whatnot, there’s a fat chance you’ve forgotten how to indulge. So, we’re giving you a little reminder that will lead you in the right direction:

Grab a passport

Little there is in life that makes our soul and mind blossom like traveling does; whether it’s just going around your country or traveling to an exotic destination, the experience is priceless! Apart from all the gorgeousness you’ll get to see, you’ll get to meet some amazing new people that may potentially stick around. Another piece of good news? You won’t be staring at your screen, but rather – enjoy the blue and green distances, and all the splendid nature or marvelous architecture (depending on where you are headed). It’s beautiful, everything about it!

P.S. If you can’t find anyone to go with you – go alone. Australia is great but most simply don’t feel like expanding their horizons and actually going someplace else. Don’t be that person.

Pamper your life

Yes! Aside from caring for your hygiene and making sure your makeup isn’t smudged and our hair looks somewhat decent, when was the last time you’ve actually enjoyed a salon visit? If it takes you that much time to remember, it means it was way too long ago.

Make it your business to go for massages regularly, visit the hair salon at least once a week, indulge in facials, mani-pedis and everything else you’ve always wanted to do. Even if you’ve been thinking about cosmetic surgery but haven’t had the time/money/guts to go in for a consultation, do it this time around. With the amazing experts in cosmetic surgery in Perth you’ll achieve virtually anything you want, feel better and happier, and your confidence will skyrocket. Remember, this is the time to love yourself.

Chill the hell out

With hectic commitments, overbooked schedules and insane working hours, can you really sit still for a second and breathe? Ah, if you are lucky. Well, it’s high time that changed. Give yourself permission to enjoy your free time, without thinking about what’s next to be done for work. Relax! Watch your favorite movies and series, eat good food, turn to things that make you happy (DIY, arts and crafts, redecorating, painting, drawing, writing, cooking, etc.) and embrace them. Just a few hours of enjoyment will give you gallons of energy and enthusiasm for all that’s coming next.

See those you love

You’ve got that promotion you’ve been busting your as* off for months and you’ve even come to a point where everyone at the office knows your name. Sweet, we applaud! But when was the last time you’ve actually sat down with someone you love, hugged them and shared that happiness? Last Christmas? Six months ago? What, a year ago? Hey, your best friend and your mum miss you, just so you know. So do your siblings.

Next time you sit down to pen in everything you’ve got to do the following month, make sure you schedule coffee/lunch/dinner dates with your favorite people in the world. You don’t have to spend hours together; a chat and a hug that span through an hour are just fine to keep the love floating. Love is like a plant, you know? If you don’t water it, it’ll die.

Pay for help

Stop stressing about the fact your place looks like a battlefield and hire help. You’re already way too torn to manage your business and personal life, it’s understandable you won’t have the time to go Bree Van De Kamp on your place. Let yourself rely on someone else for a change and hire help to keep the place clean. Once a week, it’s enough – plus, it’ll fit the budget.

See? It’s not even that hard. Just give yourself permission to enjoy and it’ll happen.
